This event will showcase concrete examples of the importance of instructional metadata to those who advise on legislation to fund the development of instructional assets and those with programs that take advantage of those assets. Metadata plays a role in making resources more discoverable by providing contextual relevance key to supporting best practices. Presenters include representatives from the USDOE, education publishers, organizations providing technical services to create and use these metadata, and informal education organization leveraging this effort to make their materials more relevant and discoverable by educators and learners.
Learn more about the background of metadata and distributed registries followed from Michael Jay and Dave Gladney as they present a separate session on "Improving Instruction by Putting Data to Work: Using Metadata to Address Student Needs" as a part of the 2014 NCES STATS-DC Data Conference.
